Why this petition matters

To ALL US SENATORS  and ALL UNITED STATES CITIZENS:

How do you measure a life lost? How do you measure a family's tragedy, and a loss of a generation of children? Gun violence affects ALL of us. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Please take a STAND with me and help get Gun Safety For All passed. We all have to come together!

Per the PEW Research Center and CDC:

In 2020 alone, the most recent year for which complete data is available 45,222 people died from gun related injuries in the US, according to the CDC. That figure includes gun murders, gun suicides, and other gun related deaths from law enforcement and unintentional accidents.

We have to come together and change our rhetoric to get Gun Safety For All passed. No one side is going to win this war on gun violence, as evidenced by, no current comprehensive gun legislation! We need to make a comprehensive, common sense, and balanced approach everyone can stand behind. We can start saving innocent lives now! Won't you help me, our neighborhoods, our communities, our states, and our country because gun violence affects us ALL.

My proposed GUN SAFETY FOR ALL legislation  is a comprehensive, common sense, and balanced approach we need to save innocent lives. We need GUN SAFETY FOR ALL. We need to call upon the UNITED STATES SENATE to put into effect these life saving measures on gun safety NOW

Gun Safety For All: Any private citizen who wants to purchase a gun of any type must:

       1. Attend a full day (8 hours) comprehensive course on gun safety by a certified gun expert, pass a written exam on gun safety (Standards will be set by experts in the field), and achieve 95% accuracy during a shooting range test to ensure safe and secure gun handling. The gun owner will have to provide proof they have trigger locks for all of their guns and at least one other storage safety measure which would include strong boxes, security cases, and/or gun safes to properly store their firearms.

Note: The second amendment states: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. We need a well regulated Militia, it doesn't say "No regulations". All industries have safety regulations. We have to STAND UP and end MASS SHOOTINGS. HELP STOP THE SLAUGHTERING of INNOCENT LIVES!

       2. Pass a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation performed by a mental health professional in a hospital setting (basically evaluating the gun owner to ensure they are of sound mind and body).

       3. Pass a comprehensive universal background check performed by government agencies, which reviews the criminal record, psychiatric record, hospital record, and interviews friends, family members, and social media presence for possible red flags.

        4. Enact a 72 hour waiting period to purchase any type of gun which provides a "cooling off period" and ensures that the comprehensive universal background check is completed.

Note: Under current federal law, there is no waiting period requirement for the purchase of guns. Waiting period laws give law enforcement additional time to perform an accurate background check and create a “cooling off” period to prevent acts of violence or suicide attempts. If sold from a federally licensed dealer, a gun can be transferred to a purchaser before a proper background check is performed. However, the laws do not apply to private dealers in states that do not require universal background checks.

Note: Waiting periods reduce the number of prohibited people from purchasing guns, along with those who purchase a firearm with the intent of suicide. Waiting periods are an under-utilized, evidence-based strategy for reducing death and injuries.

        5. Renew their gun licence and safety certification every two years. If nurses must renew their licences every two years, so can you! Be responsible & practice Gun Safety For All!

       6. Raising the age limit to buy assault weapons to age 25. Empirical (scientific) data shows that critical parts (ie. Prefrontal cortex) of the brain involved in decision-making are not fully developed until approximately 25 years of age.

Note: I didn't include a ban on assault weapons because there is no way the GOP or the NRA will allow it. Furthermore, it isn't necessary. If we can control who has a gun in their possession, then, we can control and put an end to mass shootings! It's not the gun, it's the behavior of the person behind the gun that matters most. Just like with impaired drivers, it's not the car, it's the behavior of the person behind the wheel! I firmly believe in The Second Amendment and what it states, "a well regulated Militia".

Please contact your local US SENATORS, write them, e-mail them, or tag them on social media outlets! Let's STAND UP in MASS and tell them enough is enough and we need Gun Safety for All Now!  #MASS Mothers Against School Shootings
