Ban All Assault Weapons - NOW!

The recent gun violence, in particular the killing of 10 people in Boulder, CO can only be ended by getting rid of the guns that are used to commit this violence. It's not enough to tell gun makers that they have to change the design of assault weapons to make them 'safe.' Assault weapons have to be banned -period. And the ban has to cover assault weapons that are currently owned, not just guns that haven't yet been manufactured or sold.
Any firearm that loads from beneath the frame and fires in semi-automatic mode is an assault weapon. These weapons are designed to kill human beings. They are not 'sporting' guns. There are 20 million such guns privately owned and every, single one of them needs to be collected by law enforcement and destroyed.
It would cost the U.S. Government $15 billion to reimburse every owner of an assault weapon when the gun is turned in. The FY 2020 federal budget was $4.8 trillion. We can't afford $15 billion to protect our communities from assault weapons?
This petition asks the Congress to enact an assault weapons ban which gets rid of these dangerous weapons once and for all. Getting rid of these weapons protects everyone.
