Covid-19 vaccination requirement for student athletes at Guilderland is unnecessary and does NOT make sense!

Guilderland student athletes can play for club teams with their peers, in and out of district, without this vaccination requirement.  

Vaccination status has no bearing on all district students participating in these same high risk sports during PE classes.  

Guilderland students in high risk indoor activities, such as band and chorus, do NOT have this requirement. 

Niskayuna Central school district have recently changed their policy and no longer require vaccination for high risk sports. Part of this change was due to an athlete having complications related to the vaccine during practice.

Cheerleading is the third state championship event to alter vaccination policies. MVP Arena in Albany canceled requirements for proof of vaccination for fans at the state wrestling tournament on Feb. 25-26. No NYSPHSAA winter championships now have vaccine requirements.

The covid-19 vaccine is a personal health choice that should be decided between a parent and their child with the guidance of a licensed health professional. This decision should have zero impact on that child’s experience at public school.
