Bring Back the Alta Vista School Multicultural Mural!

The multicultural mural which has graced the entrance way of Alta Vista Public School since my kids were in kindergarten has been painted over in the Summer of 2016. The mural represented inclusion. Different races and religions were depicted and it made me proud that this was the kind of school environment that was being created. It was the first thing you saw when you walked in the front doors.

If I were a new immigrant to Canada and I was worried about fitting into the school, the sight of that mural would have made me feel at ease. Myself, as a white male, not having to worry much at all about my white kids fitting in, I was tremendously proud to see that mural. I remember the first time I saw it and thought to myself, wow now that’s pretty cool, everyone is included.

The Principal has made it clear he doesn't want a mural in any shape or form.

This was a beloved mural. Now it's gone. Let's get it back or something just like it.

I would like to add that I'm hoping School Council will be supportive in this endeavor and we can work together as a school and a community (teachers, kids, parents, etc.) and make something great again. And let's get the photos back that were also removed. Thanks!
