May 11, 2020, Hagåtña, GUAM – In response to the Supreme Court of the United States’ refusal to review the Government of Guam’s appeal of the Davis v. Guam ruling, we are urging our island leaders to continue to fight for justice and CHamoru Self-Determination.

While it is tempting to simply dismiss this as another moment of colonial injustice over the centuries, this is really a failure on the part of the United States to address the legitimate concerns of the CHamoru people.

The denial by the U.S. court system presents a unique and incredibly timely opportunity for our island to build relationships with the regional and international community as we navigate towards decolonization. Now is the time to stand together for justice.

This effort requires the full support of all Guam’s elected leaders both here in Hagåtña and in Washington D.C. To proclaim that we are powerless to act or move forward at this time is not just acceding to the authority of the Federal Courts, it is an admission that we are powerless and that colonial authority is superior to justice and fairness. Keep hope alive! FANOHGE!
