Why this petition matters
My name is Mehaan Doshi and I am 11 years old. I’m a 5th grade student at Hill Spring International School in Mumbai. I recently met with Mr. Nipun Malhotra, and was truly inspired by him.
For persons with disabilities, their equipments like wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids etc. are important for their basic mobility and survival.
Unfortunately, these equipments are taxed, and make basic-living expensive for these persons with disabilities.
Even today, most disability equipment which includes assistive devices and rehabilitation aids for physically challenged persons, falls under the 5% GST Rate.
Which is why, I am asking the GST Council, Government of India, to drop the GST Tax amount on disability mobile devices from 5% to 0%. Sign my petition.
I am doing a project for my exhibition, which is a final exam for my PYP years which happens in 5th grade, and we had to decide our own topics related to ‘Sharing the Planet’ and I chose Disability Discrimination. I have gone to a few schools for disabled children and have interviewed two people, Mr. Nipun Malhotra and Dr. Ketna Mehta, to learn more about this issue.
I understand that the Government of India had reduced the GST from 18% to 5%. Although this is a huge drop in the tax, it would be better if it was dropped completely to 0%. Then the persons with disability would find it a lot easier to purchase these basic equipments.
Sign my petition, and share it, so together we can make a change. I hope you understand what I am trying to say and I am looking forward to receiving a response from you.
