YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A GROVE CITY RESIDENT TO SIGN!!!
Petland recently received a permit to open a new location on London Groveport Rd in Grove City, Ohio. Petland currently receives their animals from high volume breeders, known as puppy mills, often bred without any consideration to inherited temperment or health.
People buying these animals are promised they come from reputable breeders, which is not the case.
Grove City Council currently wants to pass an oridinance preventing Petland from purchasing from puppy mills and forcing them to disclose more information about where they get their animals from. We feel as though that is not enough to truly stop Petland from continuing their current practices. They will simply find a new way to mislead their consumers about where their animals are coming from, just as they do now, and continue with business as usual.
We want Grove City to take a stand against the abuse that occurs inside a puppy mill. We want a stand taken against the countless lives lost in shelters daily because Petland is allowed to put overpriced puppies on their shelves. We want Grove City to not only set an example for the rest of Ohio, but hopefully cities across the nation.
Signing this petition shows your support for the cause. You want an ordinance passed by Grove City Council preventing any pet store from selling dogs or cats that are not from a local shelter or rescue. You want the pet store to be required to disclose which local shelter or rescue group the animal is from. You want adopters to have to go through the basic adoption process to make sure animals are going into fit, safe homes. You want stores to be required to provide healthy, well-tempered homeless pets to their customers.
This is not a problem for the other big name stores in the area. It should not be a problem for Petland if they truly want to open their store in Grove City and support the local economy.
