Current Grosse Pointe Public School System Board of Education Trustee Cindy Pangborn is running for re-election on November 3rd.  Ads supporting her campaign were placed in the September 24, 2020 edition of the Grosse Pointe News by local PAC GP Taxpayers for Education.  The ads contain several false statements about GPPSS administrators as well as every school in the district.  Trustee Judy Gafa presented a motion at the September 28, 2020 BOE meeting to censure Trustee Pangborn for violating several board bylaws, misleading the public, and for conduct unbecoming of a BOE trustee.

Per Mrs. Pangborn’s official statement:

“I had nothing to do with or any involvement with the creation or placement of the advertisement in question. It was run under a PAC that I have not cooperated with nor do I belong to. I support our teachers, the staff, the administrators in our buildings who have worked tirelessly to support our students and who have been put in an impossible situation by our central administration. This censure is not valid since I had no involvement in the creation or placement of this advertisement. It is a PAC group that endorsed several candidates.”

This is not a truthful statement.  Mrs. Pangborn admitted during the meeting to providing her photo to the PAC for use in the ad - in other words, she cooperated and was involved with the creation of the ad.  Mrs. Pangborn claims to have had no prior knowledge of the print contents of the ad, but her running mate Mrs. Lauren Nowicki has stated on social media that the PAC allowed her to preview the ad.   Mrs. Pangborn was given the opportunity to refute the contents of the ad during the September 28, 2020 meeting and refused to do so.

I support the censure of Trustee Cindy Pangborn and request her immediate resignation from the Grosse Pointe Public School System Board of Education.
