Patrice Whiteman started this petition to Griffith Community Mental Health and

The community of Narrandera Shire are requesting a more suitable approach towards the availabilility and assistance that is provided to support Mental Health Care in the means of an actual support worker/s on a daily basis.

My Name is Patrice, I am a mum of 4 children. I live in a small country town called Narrandera and we have approx 5000 residents in our shire which consists of many little towns and villages.

One of my children suffer multiple mental health issues. For this child to get the regular treatment and support he needs we have to do approx 200km round trip- which is fine whilst he is not having a crisis but ultimately is just not good enough.

During crisis( we have endured multiple episodes) he has to do a video call also known as a mhecs(Mental Health Emergency Consultant Service) at our local hospital and during that call it will be decided if he needs to be transported to our main hospital which again is approx 100km away.

Our community has a high rate of suicides and attempts, I personally feel that if we can all make a noise and have our voices heard that we may be successful in gaining the much needed help we so desperately need.

Mental Health issues will not go away, the stigma that is associated with it needs to be broken down and more awareness made.

Having a mental health clinician in town readily available won't stop people from self harming, however it will potentially allow those who are struggling to get help before it does become a severe crisis situation.
