Felisia Newby started this petition to Governor Gretchen Whitmer and

Our neighborhoods can improve! Our youths don’t need to be juvenile detention or prison bond.

Single parents don’t need to struggle alone. Our Youth need more than just sitting idled in the educational system. They have skills that yesterday educational system don’t address or explore. However, skill trades will.

Therefore, we are demanding that the Detroit Educational School System upgrade their educational model to include and address the needs of our children in conjunction with the needs of our community.

If they can build and invest in prisons for our youth, then they certainly can invest in a better education and skill trade program. Show the same energy you have for predicting our children’s future and hopes for prison. Let’s have that same prediction and hope in a reform educational system while adding a newer component of Skill Trade in All DETROIT HIGH SCHOOLS from 15-18.

This would be during school and after school as well.

Obviously, by doing this, our children will have a more structured opportunity to become active and productive citizens in our society.

Based on research, teenagers are vulnerable and susceptible to peer pressure. A robust skill trade program will instill value and self worth in our youth. This will give them the necessary strength and skills to combat peer pressure and the confidence to handle bullying.

We also, know that healthy conflict is good and can foster growth and development. It is the UNRESOLVED conflict that results into crime such as murder.

While Skill Trades doesn’t address directly conflict resolution skills. A few key components are the core if not the foundation of problem solving skills. Students will have to address complexed problem solving in Skill Trades programs in which they can transcend into real life experiences.

By channeling this skills gives student a better choice to make - violence or my future. When some can they can see their future, they will choose the latter over violence .

Last , but not least, we want to have in place preemptive strategies to help our youth. It takes a village! With that being said, we want to help our children build communities , and productive contributors in our society’s. We want to teach them to build our communities before the streets teach them how to destroy our communities.

Sign the Petition, Now for the Detroit Educational School System to start SCHOOL TRADE PROGRAM in HIGH SCHOOLs starting from ages 15-18. This would be during and after school program.

If they can build and invest in prisons; then they can build and invest new educational /skill trade programs.

You can promise to bring jobs all you want! But if you don’t have a program that would address the needs and demand in your funnel . Then those jobs will be filled by others outsiders  of the community.

Build your talent base at home first before resorting to outsourcing! We want to see our children with books, blue prints, hammers , and drills ; instead of guns and felonies!

2019, Back to School Campaign!
