Andrea Esse started this petition to Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Currently under Governor Whitmer's stay home order, real estate is deemed an non-essential business. This order is creating problems not only for the thousands of real estate professionals but also the community we serve.  Life situations happen in addition to this pandemic and people need housing and don't have the privilege of waiting.  We the Realtor Community and many other Michiganders that this is affecting, ask that the state and local governments minimize the potential interruptions to the real estate market, Michigan economy, and more specifically provide housing to those that unfortunately are in need at this time, by declaring real estate services as ‘essential services’ under any emergency powers declaration.

The ability to close real estate transactions includes certain requirements and deadlines. The impact, both on the lives and finances of property owners, is substantial and can be avoided if essential services are allowed to continue. There will be enough economic harm from this pandemic without adding the shutdown of real estate transactions.

We understand this pandemic will have an impact on the real estate industry and the economy. But if we can keep the processes running as smoothly as possible, we can work together to limit the negative effects on our State and its citizens.
