Why this petition matters

Started by Deon Haynes

This petition needs to reach our governor so this can be the first stop in covert racism. There needs to be a law in place whereas an employer should not have to ask for our race on a job application as this can lead to discrimination against minority groups. For example, if a white man from Harvard University graduates with a 4.0 and a black from Harvard University graduates with a 4.0 and they both apply for the same job, who is more likely to receive the employment? Even for two young women graduating high school and applying for college. One is a white young lady who graduates from high school with a 3.0 and a black young lady who graduates from high school with a 3.0 and they both apply to Michigan State University. Why would it matter if you’re black, white, or brown? The solution should be for our Governor Gretchen Whitmer to sign an executive order banning those questions being asked in our state and have establishments only focus on our credentials. Let’s have Michigan be the first state to set this example and change our country from covert racism. Thank you.
