Biology 1001 is an exceptionally challenging course that, while being an introductory course, has the difficulty of an upper level course and requires extensive focus during lectures and intense independent studying in preparation for exams that cover 15+ topics per exam with no provided study guides aside from problem sets that rarely correlate with what was taught in class, as well as no structured review sessions that bring the course full circle, and a lack of access to the slides that the professor presents during class until right before the exams. The average test score for the lecture exams lingered from 50-70%, while the average for the lab quizzes, which were open note, were non coincidentally higher by an extremely large amount. The ability to access and reference notes during an exam takes 50% of the stress and pressure off of a student and completely affects how they perform during an exam of the level of difficulty that biology 1001 requests.  The student body collectively feels that it is unreasonable to have exams that cover such a plethora of information without being able to reference notes taken during lectures and we ask you to kindly take our plea into consideration and allow the final exam to be open note OR allow each student to bring a full sheet of paper's worth of notes that they believe will help them succeed during the exam.
