UT’s annual weekend-long RoundUp event draws 10,000+ visitors every year. While COVID-19 has not reached our city yet, it is only a matter of time until it likely does. With SXSW already cancelled and UT Austin reportedly planning to change all classes to an online format in preparation, it would be prudent to cancel this large-scale gathering as well. While young, healthy college students (which the majority of RoundUp attendees are) are not at as severe of a risk as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, this matter should not be taken lightly. It is imperative that all reasonable measures which may quell the spread of the virus be taken.
