Many of our gravel roads in Rodney are in an appalling condition. They need long overdue rehabilitation work. Instead of spending $1 million a kilometre building a new sealed road, for $150,000 a kilometre, we can use new rehabilitation techniques to bring about 200kms of our worst roads up to a high standard within a few years.

The $121m currently allocated to road sealing will only sort out 120kms of Rodney's roads over ten years. Spending $30m of this funding on rehabilitation would offer better value for money and deal with more roads quicker, providing relief to long suffering rural communities.

We want the Rodney Councillor, Greg Sayers, to agree to an urgent reallocation of $30m of road sealing funds to gravel road rehabilitation so more gravel roads can be sorted out quicker.
