Why this petition matters

Started by Jason Bollinger

Greg Marcus, president and CEO of the Marcus Corp. that runs a franchise of theaters throughout the Midwest, insists on appearing in short skits before each movie, advertising products (concessions, movies, etc.) that his audience has already purchased.  The tone of these skits seems to intend humor, but in fact, they are painfully unfunny.  They clearly exist to placate Greg's ego.  He clearly believes that those of us who buy a ticket to a Marcus Theater long to have an awkward doofus provide a personal touch to our cinematic experience.  The problems are manifold.  First of all, Greg Marcus is aggressively unfunny and irritating.  Secondly, these skits of his invariably come after the same pre-movie Chevy ads that have been showing for the last ten years, 15-20 minutes of pre-feature movie trailers, and before another full 5-10 minutes of ads for the theater's technology, like the in-house sound system, the 3D company, and something called "Cinedigm"--which I assume runs the soda machines?  At any rate, Mr. Marcus should consider the effect that his facile, moronic, narcissistic skits have on those of us who frequent his theaters.  Think of how many times regular customers have to suffer through your idiotic antics.  On the other hand, consider that not one person--not one, ever---has been amused or reacted positively to these pointless wastes of your paying customers' time.  Perhaps you have market researchers who disagree.  Fire them.  Retire your face from movie screens as soon as possible.
