Stop the ICBC Monopoly on Motor Vehicle Insurance in British Columbia!

The original purpose of ICBC was to provide universal and affordable compulsory public auto insurance in British Columbia by operating on a non-profit basis. ICBC no longer operates on a non-profit basis and is NOT cost effective for British Columbians.
I am seeing my rates increase every year even though I have never made a claim! When I moved to BC from Alberta 14 years ago I was happy to see regulated rates. However, our "regulated rates" are not competitive anymore. British Columbians deserve to choose who we purchase our insurance through and we deserve a fair rate. I'm not saying "shut down ICBC", i'm saying, "let in the competition"!
Although we can use an independant insurance broker, any person with a motor vehicle requiring registration and a licence plate in the province of British Columbia, must purchase the compulsory "Autoplan" package through ICBC. This is an unfair monopoly! The "Autoplan" package is generic at best. The additional recommendations that are provided independently by the broker are costly and shouldn't be an "add on".
I am suggesting that the Province of British Columbia allow Independent Insurance Companies to cover all of the consumers needs instead of being a "broker" for ICBC. Keep ICBC as a choice and to do what it was built to do...keep insurance affordable!
