Services Australia will close the Mornington Centrelink Office on the 27th March this year. This will have a significant negative impact on those most vulnerable in our community that often need the face to face support provided by the office. In particular this includes those living in poverty, those living with disability, those experiencing mental ill health and the aged. The added burden for those needing to attend a Centrelink office, of having to travel to either Frankston or Rosebud is of great concern, at a time when what is needed is more support not less for our most disadvantaged. This added burden will include added time, money and inconvenience to get the support that they need. While there has been a decrease in the number of people attending Centrelink offices over the years, for those that do need to attend, it is an essential service. The closure will also reduce the ability of local agencies to respond in a timely manner to emergency situations for clients, that Centrelink is unable to assist with.
