Donny Mackay started this petition to Greg Hunt and

Australia is the lucky country. Land of the fair go. I moved here from Scotland and have enjoyed a blessed life of sunshine and travel. My name’s Donny and I’m a lucky Australian citizen. My best mate Max was born here. Also a citizen. Max just happened to be born with a body that didn’t match who he was on the inside. It’s a complex thing being born in one body, in this case female identified, but later realising that you are a man. A lot of heartache and hard work got Max to a point where he could have surgery to help the outside match the inside. Multiple surgeries in fact, and very complex. He’s my best mate and I’m a nurse so I was able to be there to help him post op. Also complex. What’s not complex though is knowing that this is what he needed to do. Back in Scotland, and most European countries, this surgery would be covered by the government public health system. In Scotland healthcare is completely free. It is for most things in Australia too. But not this thing. This thing will cost a trans man in region of $100k. Max was able to cash in his super. It’s leaving him with nothing. A tough decision but not really a choice at the end of the day. I’ve watched my mate suffer and struggle and it’s not bloody fair. This surgery should be available to those who need it. Not complex. Simple. Please support my petition to ask our government to support people who need this surgery. Thank you.
