We know that young, healthy individuals can carry and spread the Coronavirus while showing no signs of the virus. Social distancing is recommended as well as closures of bars, restaurants and gyms throughout the state of Texas. For this reason, all healthcare workers who are in close contact with at risk populations should be tested immediately to stop the spread and save lives. Proper protective gear is not available for healthcare workers, so testing should start immediately. Providers in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, retirement homes and home health are particularly concerned for the population they serve. Once the virus establishes itself in these settings, it will spread like wildfire and cause a repeat of Kirkland Lifecare. As you are testing symptomatic cases, test those who closely interact with at risk communities now and test them again if they develop symptoms. We cannot stay 6 feet from our patients. We help them with all of their daily activities in very close quarters. If we are unknowingly spreading the virus, it's the fault of those who chose not to test. Knowledge is power. Ignorance is death. Stop the spread and test all of us.
