The Help started this petition to Governor of Texas Greg Abbott

I am writing as a concerned member of society who is empathetic towards those being treated inhumanely. Incarcerated lives matter too. It is my understanding that prison officials fabricate or embellish details to the media regarding what is actually being provided to inmates. The intent of this letter is to move people to use their platform to shed light on the poor conditions and health concerns of the prison system. Given the information below, I am requesting that you stand against any unethical and/or inhumane treatment in order to promote change within the prison system. Reform is nearly impossible under the current degrading conditions inmates are forced to live in. Our fellow human beings need to be set up for a successful reentry into society, and satisfying their basic human rights would assist in reaching that goal. Below are just a few of the concerns to target:

Lack of air conditioning- Temperatures are at an unbearable high and also raising health concerns
Poor health care quality
Food service is poor
Guards are not practicing social distancing or taking any safety precautions as it relates to COVID19
Inmates continue to be crammed in showers together despite the social distancing mandate
Inmates are still restricted from making phone calls at this time
Inmates are not being allowed to make hygiene spends

Thank you in advance for your review of these concerns and any action that follows.

Sincerely,

Community & Human Rights Advocate
