Overturn Texas' Deadly 10-Day Rule

Overturn Texas' Deadly 10-Day Rule
Why this petition matters

Texas enacted a law in 1999 (Texas Advance Directives Act (TADA, Chapter 166.046 of the Texas Health and Safety Code ). This law means that patients have 10 days to find a new medical facility that will take them after a hospital denies them to continue to life-sustaining medical treatment. If a family fails to find a new facility, the hospital gets full right to withdraw life-sustaining medical treatment against the patient/family wishes. This can happen even if the patient is conscious, coherent, and actively speaking against this decision.
This law is unconstitutional and undermines a patient's right to making their own medical decisions. Not only that, but ten days does not give someone enough time to arrange transportation, deal with the insurance companies, find another facility, especially because patients are not given notice about this law until the ten days have started.
We remember Charlie Gard and the absolute outrage and injustice we felt for his story. Many citizens across Texas face this reality and share a common denominator in their story, denying a life-sustaining car against their will.
America is a free country; we all should have a say in our medical care. Please help me overturn this law and save the lives of Texans. We can end this tragedy by demanding justice and stand for our Texan civilians.
