You're probably asking why does she care so much about getting rid of a state test that has been around for years? Well, I have a few good reasons coming from me and other students who take the STAAR test.

Firstly, it puts a lot of stress on the students and teachers to get ready a prepare for this test. This is supposed to put priority but when it does students start falling behind in schoolwork to study for this test. Also, teachers have to prepare their classrooms and the school for that day which takes time, effort, and money which isn't fair for them to work this hard they should be attending to their class not working on other STAAR testing preparation stuff.

Secondly, what is this test gonna show, or what is it doing to benefit the students? if you look at the numbers schools and students that don't do STAAR testing have a higher academic GPA and are more likely to succeed and go to college. 39% more high schoolers drop out of high schools or don't go to college that does STAAR testing. But if we still wanted a standardized test we could do something like the mock SATs or mock ACTs these will prepare us for these tests in high school that colleges will actually look at.

Lastly, this test is tied to school funding. So let's break this down if one school scores higher they get more fundings for their school. But if your students don't score high enough the school that is struggling and needs that money actually gets funded less money. This puts stress on the administrative board which leads to the teachers getting stressed and that makes the students stressed to get a good grade. You may ask well what if they don't get a good grade? The teacher's pay gets docked, the school loses funding for events or even elective classes.

Ok so now that I have given some of my many reasons to stop STAAR testing in Texas I want your question from "why does she care so much about getting rid of a state test that has been around for years" to, this makes more sense how do we get rid of it. There is an easier solution to this question. Sign the petition!
