The COVID-19 pandemic is nowhere near being resolved. While there are vaccinations being administered, even a month longer can lead to serious damage whether it be economically, infra-structurally, academically, socially, and etc. Just on February 22, the United States hit the 500,000 mark for the amount of lives lost. Beyond just the lives lost, those that do recover from COVID-19 are still experiencing permanent health damages that not only affect mental health but also financial stability. Furthermore, the impact of this pandemic has also led to an increase in hate crimes surrounding minorities around the country. While hospitalizations may seem to be decreased, there are many reasons as to why this rollback should not occur. In past, we've seen that such rollbacks have only been followed by spikes in cases and hospitalizations. Another factor to consider is the recent freeze that every county in Texas experienced. During this time, many were forced to leave their homes and join shelters with many other civilians - as a result, many scientists and health experts are expecting an acceleration of cases in coming weeks due to the high possibility that new cases will arise. While COVID-19 safety measures do require "personal responsibility," we've seen that these COVID-19 safety mandates are the only reasons why some people even take these safety measures. By removing such guidelines, Texas (one of the biggest states in the country) is making is easier for many to distance themselves from said "personal responsibility" and make it harder for the country to return to a state of normalcy.
