Please consider changing the rules in hospitals across Texas to allow both parents or at least one parent and one person to be a supportive system.

Imagine with me if you will- your baby needs surgery from a very rare birth abnormality, so rare in fact, that most surgeons have never seen it. There are few case studies, so before a corrective surgery can be done, medical testing comes first.

While your baby is under for medical testing, only one parent is allowed to wait in the waiting room. While waiting, you can’t help but wondering what the out come might be... Promising? Devastating?  As you sit there alone, they came and get you. Your child is wake but very fussy and irritable. While trying to sooth the child the medical team wants to explain to you the findings, but your having a hard time listening because your baby needs comfort... distracting you from being able to listen well and think of the question that need to be asked for your child’s overall well being. In addition, your leaking breastmilk everywhere because there simply isn’t a second to pump because there no one to watch your child or comfort them while you slip away to pump. Imagine holding your child and crying because things didn’t go as planned for the medical testing. Imagine being alone...

How would you feel if it was your family being asked to do such a thing?

This is a very small example of what parents across America and Texas are going through right now during COVID-19. It feels like mental and emotional abuses. Especially for the children.

This absolutely has to change. Parents across Texas are having children diagnosed with all kinds of heartbreaking medical conditions and undergoing major surgical procedures and only one person being present simply won’t do. It’s not fair to our children who deserve more and it’s certainly not right to continue to overwhelm the nursing staff due to the lack of parental help each child needs. Please change this rule. Do it for the children. They deserve more! Numbers have drastically gone down across Texas and the recovery rate for COVID-19 is somewhere around the 98% range. Sure, in the beginning this was necessary, but as numbers have gone down, the requirements for face coverings has increased the rules should be lifted.

The current rules make no sense.. For example: if you take your child to the ER, two parents are allowed. However, if your child is admitted into a hospital in the state of Texas, only one parent is allowed at a time. This makes little sense, especially if both parents live in the same household.

If a child has two parents who want to be involved while their child is in the hospital they should be allowed to both be present. It is for the over all well being of the child for them to have two parents or two individuals there who love and care for them.  This is not only for the child but for the parents who need the emotional, metal and physical support from each other. Especially when receiving Medical information and making informed decisions for the child.

please, please, please consider the children.
