Zoe Butler started this petition to Governor of Texas Greg Abbott

Senate Bill 4 was passed by Texas Governor, Gregg Abbott, and went into effect September 1st, 2017. The bill criminalizes “Sanctuary Cities” by defunding any federal-funded institution (ie. public schools, police departments, etc) that claim “Sanctuary.” A city or campus that can claim “Sanctuary” protects the confidentiality and safety of a person’s immigration status. Senate Bill 4 not only threatens people’s basic right to privacy, but also inadvertently allows Law Enforcement to racially profile, and without cause be able to demand proof of a person’s citizenship. Help protect Texas’ 17% of immigrants who support our economy, and are an intrinsic part of Texas’s history, and backbone. We our a country built on immigrants, let’s protect the future of its immigrants too.
