On September 1, 2021 a restrictive ban on abortions went into effect in Texas. Known as the Heartbeat Act, this new law prohibits abortions after any trace of cardiac activity is detected, approximately 6 weeks into pregnancy. Most women do not know they are pregnant until 6 weeks or after, meaning this law effectively restricts the vast majority of abortions. Bans on reproductive healthcare will result in women obtaining unsafe or illegal abortions and it also places a heavy financial burden on those who are unable to secure childcare, time off from work, or travel out of state to receive healthcare services. We encourage all people to sign this petition, urging Greg Abbott and our lawmakers to reconsider this law and hear our voices. we hope to overturn this bill so that women can once again get safe abortions' that also don't make them have to go some where far away and pay more money to get an abortion that may not be safe for them.
