This petition is an opportunity for local parents and skaters to show their support for the proposed skate park in Charlton Park, SE7.
The current plan is for the new skatepark to curve around the already popular outdoor gym area. The new skate park will have a combination of features and be suitable for both beginners and more advanced wheeled-sport fans.
As local parents, we think Charlton should embrace the exciting idea of having a skate park on its doorstep.
The skate park has potential to be great fun for local children, teenagers, and adults as well as encouraging fitness and bringing together people of all ages. The provision for skate parks in this part of London is very poor and this facility will go some way to addressing that.
We would encourage as many local people as possible to engage with the continuing consultation to ensure that the skate park is the best facility it can be. You can get involved by emailing the project manager, the brilliantly named Amy London via: firstname.lastname@example.org.
This petition is NOT in support of the way in which Charlton Park was selected as a location by the Council. The consultation with local residents was non-existent. And the choice of three sites within Charlton Park itself wasn't any real choice at all. But a poor consultation process does not make the idea of a skate park in Charlton Park a bad one.
We think that Charlton should grab the £360,000 of investment being offered with both hands.
Charlton Park is an excellent location for the skate park. It has great transport links, the location proposed is already used for many different activities. A skate park will add to business for the two excellent cafes in the park. It might also bring more business and people to Charlton Village and help revitalise shops there.
If you want a healthy, free thing for your kids to do on a Saturday morning then please make your voice heard and sign the petition. Thank you.
