Re-open The Rochester Way Social Club for the community.

As local residents and former members of the Rochester club for, in some cases, the last 50 plus years, it saddens us to think that the club may no longer an active part of our community.
It has always been a popular meeting place for many local families and individuals but more than that it has been in some ways a lifeline for groups such as the o.a.p community who would meet there, an easily reached and familiar local venue, to play bingo and catch up with each other.
We would point out that there is no other local club or public house until you reach Eltham, Blackheath or Greenwich and as such is the only easily reachable community facility for some.
- Many younger residents now travel to Eltham to socialise at the weekend however for a lot of the older community this is not possible.
- Many older residents now do not go out and socialise and feel cut off from the world and their friends.
- The council have received contact from two members of the community who wish to open the club back up. They are not asking for anything for free they are willing to pay and rent the lease. We received back the following information;
"The Council is pursuing alternative service uses for this site and, therefore, it will not be available for continued use as a social club.
I am sorry if this is dissaponting, but we do need to give priority to service uses."
To all petitioners - You may be a regular user of the club or you may not have been for a few/many year but please support our cause and not allow the council to shut down such a valuable place in our community and shut it off from our local residents.
