AFRICA'S FORESTS ARE ON FIRE, HELP US CHANGE THIS SITUATION
After reading a study on forest fires conducted by University Nova de Lisboa, we, a group of students from IFCE(an educational institution in Ceará, Brazil), we are making this petition as a means of drawing your due attention to this very serious problem today.
According to this study, 70% of the entire area of forests burned annually across the planet is located on the African continent, specifically in Angola, Mozambique and Zambia, and they represent 60% of all greenhouse gases generated by this type of fire.
However, we saw two big problems when we read this news: the lack of dissemination of this information by the international media, and the governments of these countries adopting unsustainable measures, according to scientist José Miguel Cardoso Pereira. Therefore, we ask for help from the big environmental ONGs, Greenpeace, IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) and UNEP (United Nations Environment Program), so that they can bring this very important topic in their own media, is that, consequently, there is greater popular pressure for the governments of these countries to carry out the most sustainable measures possible with these fires.
