School District 308 should switch over to biodegradable cutlery during lunch periods instead of one use plastics. According to the UFDA fy 2018 preliminary data, nearly 100,000 schools serve school lunches to 29.8 million students each day. That is a lot of one use plastic being utilized every single day. The cutlery being used adds up and creates a negative impact on the environment. By starting small and switching over to biodegradable cutlery, school can eliminate this issue. As students we are responsible for what our schools put into the world, and as consumers we are responsible for controlling the industry. Helping one organization grow and produce more biodegradable cutlery , can sprout other organizations to start and do the same, which would create an even bigger impact than intended. This would also be able to slow the growth of plastic utensils being produced. Small actions by individuals can create huge impacts!
