Global warming is becoming a major problem. It is causing the Earth to heat at an alarming rate and affects us all. The arctic is melting and because of this, the animals that live there are dying. This is due to the fact that their home is being melted. Not only that, but the ice and snow that is being melted goes into the ocean and causes the ocean to rise. The weather is affected by global warming, and there have been many floods in the U.S. recently. States and places in the U.S. have suffered major climate change, such as cooler states warming up and not receiving as much snow.

The main cause behind global warming are pollutants caused by humans.  Definition of global warming: “A gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants.” Global levels of greenhouse gases have increased since the Industrial Revolution in the 1970s. Scientists know this because they have years of scientific research, and international studies to back this up. Evidence and examples of the effects that these pollutants are causing global warming would be(as NASA states on https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/  temperature rise, warming of oceans, shrinking ice sheets, glacial retreat, deceased snow cover, sea level rise, declining arctic sea ice, extreme events(such as intense rainfall and storms), and ocean acidification.

Not only that, but deforestation and desertification have impacts as well. Desertification is caused by global warming and it is when the parts of the world start heating up and becoming dry and arid. Deforestation is the cutting down of trees, and because of this, we are losing oxygen and releasing more CO2 into the atmosphere. Wildfires also occur more commonly and they last longer. Global warming is also causing animal extinction. For example, the animals in the arctic such as penguins and polar bears are dying because the ice that they live on is melting and is causing the oceans to rise.

The steps that we can take to stop global warming is  switch to alternative sources such as electric cars, geothermal energy, solar energy, etc. We could also reduce emissions, and stop deforestation. The president could also team unite with the other countries, and they could all sign the Paris agreement. The Paris agreement is supposed to bring all the nations together in a common cause to stop global warming and fight climate change. With the Paris agreement, all the nations of the world can come together and stop global warming. With this, the Earth will begin to heal itself and we don’t have to worry about living shorter lifespans, and all of the other dangers that global warming causes.

Other ways to stop global warming is by planting more trees. By planting trees, we are able to get more oxygen and less CO2. We can also eat non processed foods and organic food instead, as well as reengineer our waste. This is because greenhouse gases also come from meat and dairy production. Garbage and waste landfills also contribute to greenhouse gases because of methane, this is why reengineering waste will supply us with different energy that is better for the environment and cleans the earth so that there is more room, instead of waste filling it up. Another way to help stop global warming is signing others’ petitions. The more people that can come together because of a common cause, will surely be able to end it.
