Why this petition matters
Started by Green Action Centre
Dear Government of Manitoba,
Green Action Centre and its supporters are reaching out to express our concerns regarding the proposed net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2050. The aim of the petition is to request a more aggressive and timely approach to climate action for the proposed net-zero carbon emission goal.
Green Action Centre would like the following points addressed:
- Invest in the Winnipeg Transit Plan for improvements to transit network efficiency and better access for residents.
- The improvement of cycling and pedestrian infrastructure to allow more pedestrian and cyclist accessibility to more locations safely and easily.
- Execute appropriate programming to plans such as The Winnipeg Climate Action Plan, The Residential Infill Strategy and The Transit Master Plan.
- Ban all organic wastes in landfills.
- Ban all single use plastic.
- Direct carbon revenues from carbon tax toward research and development of new technologies to mitigate GHG emissions and provide green alternatives to the community, such as sustainable transportation and renewable energy sources.
Our individual actions matter but we can’t solve the biggest issue of our time without the support of leaders in our government and businesses in our community. Green Action Centre and the signatories of this petition call upon the Manitoba Government to take bold science-based climate action NOW.
