Grant Coach Talley the Exemption to the Bylaws Allowing Him to Continue Coaching in GPSYFL

Mike Talley is a one-of-a-kind football coach. I have never met a coach who cares for EVERY player on his team as much as Mike does. He has an unrelenting passion for the game and a keen eye for finding talent in even the most unathletic kids. He knows exactly what to say and how to motivate every member of his team when the chips are down. What's more is Mike knows how to get the best performance out of even the most uninspired players. He cares a great deal for the players on his team and sacrifices so much of himself to teach them not just the game of football, but life as well.

For the past 5 years Mike has been a coach, in some capacity (asst coach to head coach), in the Greater Puget Sound Youth Football League. His entire tenure as a coach he has done so with 2 third degree felony assault charges (2003 and 2006), but due to a recent change in the league bylaws,  after the 2017 football season had begun, the statute of limitations (previously 3 years) for these charges was removed, thus preventing Mike from coaching in this league. Mike appealed this ruling and regardless of am outpouring of support (in the form of approximately 20 letters from parents of players coached by Mike) the league board denied his request for exemption. Nevermind the fact that he has cleared background checks for a school district to coach DB's for a local high school, Mike is not being allowed to coach (as an assistant coach nonetheless) 7th graders.

Mike is a great coach. Each kid he coaches is not just a better football player because of him, but a better human being. Mike knows what it's like to make mistakes and uses his life experience towards helping kids make good choices on and off the field. I am so deeply saddened that my son is being denied the opportunity to be coached by this man and I am willing to do whatever needs to be done to make sure this is only temporary... Even if that means leaving the Greater Puget Sound Youth Football League.

This change occurred with no time to adjust or appeal it before practice began. Mike has no new criminal convictions, so because of a new change to the league bylaws, he cannot coach in a league he had previously been allowed to for the last 5 years. This is unfair and disappointing. It's not protecting our children by keeping him away from the field, it's hurting them!

We all have skeletons in our closet, so please sign my petition and hopefully convince the GPSYFL board to reconsider their decision to deny Mike the ability to coach in this league. These kids deserve the opportunity to be coached by a man with his level of football knowledge and who cares as much as he does. Coach Michael Talley is truly a great role model for them, regardless of his past. Thank you for hearing me out.
