Save the Godavari river

Save the Godavari river
Sign this petition to persuade the GHMC to install an interceptor for the Godavari river that is diverting, flooding and being excessively polluted due to unsolicited human intervention, which is having a negative effect on the quality of life of numerous people, which may even include you!
The Godavari river is unnaturally diverting and being overly polluted because of impetuous actions performed by human beings. This mainly includes using the mighty Godavari river as a garbage chute. The river is being diverted because of these pollutants in it. These pollutants replace the sediments in the river which makes the river water overflow. This overflowing results in a flooding river and flooding leads to a diverted river. Also, the excessive pollutants in the river are gradually abolishing any form of life that prospers in and around this river.
This problem must be fixed because it is an environmental hazard. Firstly, a flooding river caused by pollutants results in vegetation in the river to decay which emits harmful greenhouse gases. Oceanographers concluded that carbon dioxide is emitted from the Tropical Dowlaiswaram Reservoir located on the Godavari river. This has caused a significant change in the pH level of the water and oxygen saturation. This made parts of the river unfit for sustenance or survival for almost all life forms. Secondly, due to excessive garbage in this river, certain regions of the river were deemed unsuitable for irrigation which defeats one of the main reasons this river is beneficial to humans.
Lastly, river diversion (because of pollutants) causes great economical loss for many and has environmental disruptions. Over 60 million people call the Godavari their home. A sudden shift in the location of their home can only have disastrous impacts on these people economically, and in terms of sustenance. The same issue affects animal life and ecosystems. Attributable to these issues caused by superabundant quantities of pollutants, this issue must be addressed and fixed by those who have the authority to do so.
A scientifically and technically innovative solution to fix this issue is an interceptor. Interceptors are barrier and conveyor belt systems which extract pollutants from rivers. Based on the Catamaran design, these interceptors have an uninterrupted process of collecting non-biodegradable materials from bodies of waters; including rivers. These machines have been developed by Boyan Slat. He is also the CEO and founder of ‘The Ocean Cleanup’. Installing this machine will result in cleaner water and a thriving aquatic life in the short-term. In the long-term, it will result in lesser flooding and the prevention of river diversion. This machine is capable of solving a plethora of problems and improving the life of millions.
The Blue Hyderabad campaign is a project to make water bodies surrounding Hyderabad to be more sustainable. With your help, this campaign alongside GHMC can make a prominent difference to the Godavari river and the many lives that depend on it.
