We the parents of GRCS Iroquois elementary, Rockford elementary, and GRC middle school students request that the school start date be moved to the 4th week of August or later for future school years.

Weather statistics over the last decade show that August in Michigan is the month with the second highest temperatures. This is a month when out of state family and friends visit and an ideal time for recreation in our state. 

In addition, when the earlier start date was implemented, staff and teachers were told that school would end prior to Memorial Day.  The last day of school for this school calendar year is June 2 which falls after the Memorial Day holiday.
