Dear WarpPortal, Gravity Interactive/Corporation from North America and Asia.
There has been a public statement earlier regarding the information gathered from our privacy. The article can be found right here: https://forums.warpportal.com/index.php?/topic/235536-important-notice-regarding-european-region-access/
You have stated that all countries within the European Union will be excluded from WarpPortal services at 05/25/2018. You will do a massive mistake by leaving us European players behind resulting in a loss of money and players all over your services.
We don't know who made this decision but we implore you to think it over and how you handle the information, security and privacy in your company. Keeping all European players would be more profitable then just getting rid of them.
Adapt to the new law and become compassionate. For the players, with the players!
Please take this as a sign to change the way you think about this. We care and hopefully so do you!
What is this all about?
WarpPortal refuses to adapt to the new GDPR law coming into force on May 25th 2018. The law has been around since 2016 and so there has been plenty of time to prepare.
What is GDPR?
GDPR is the abbreviation for General Data Protection Regulation which comes into force on May 25th. It gives you several rights and transparency into data collected from your behaviour. The right to be forgotten is one right the new regulation allows you to have.
If you want to know more about the GDPR read here: https://www.eugdpr.org/
Why doesn't WarpPortal want to adapt to the law?
There hasn't been an official statement yet regarding why they are doing this, but it has something to do with GDPR for sure. They have nothing to lose by adapting except for giving rights to EU citizen. The guess is, that their system internally is too old to update. Updating it would mean spending a lot of money into renewal. This is a step which Gravity apparently doesn't want to take.
What if WarpPortal doesn't adapt but let EU citizen still play?
The law says that up to 4% of the annual global turnover or €20 Million, depending on which value is greater, can be fined from companies (if they keep on offering their services in the EU). However, if you are willing to keep playing although the new regulation has hit by then, you are denying your rights and get no advantages of it.
What could WarpPortal do or have to do?
They simply could hire a DPO (Data Protection Officer) to deal with the new law and change how they handle information. This could hinder EU citizens from getting excluded. Also some internal changes need to be done as mentioned earlier. The way information is handled in their system probably has to be changed. This means more work for WarpPortal and their decision might have had something to do with it.
In this text I am generally speaking to WarpPortal and whole Gravity (GRVY).
Information given might be wrong so I propose reading this on your own. The material given is located above on the website.
