Most of us understand that to combat the spread of Covid-19, travel, and foreign travel in particular, needs to be looked at with great care, as it is one of the potential conduits for any infectious disease to spread.

As such, the development of a 'Traffic Light System' to determine from which countries Britain will allow restriction free access seems the right thing to do, especially to avoid huge 'migration' of population groups between one area and another. After all, going on a foreign holiday is not a first degree need, and forfeiting this for some time to come seems reasonable.

However, there are groups for whom 'foreign travel' IS a need, and not a luxury. People living in Britain with family abroad, and Brits living abroad, have now been restricted of seeing (close) family for almost a year and a half. Many of these include elderly relatives and parents. The need to quarantine for 10 days, on top of the extensive testing required, means this will continue for some time to come.

It is for this specific group of people, especially those who have had their two vaccines, we ask the UK Government to make an exception when travel from Amber countries is concerned, and forfeit the need for quarantine. A negative covid test on day 1 of return should suffice for people in this group. Surely that can be done?

Family ties are so important, yet so difficult to maintain at present for those of us not living in the same countries as our relatives. Given that, with vaccinations in place, the risks of us catching and / or transmitting is so low, being allowed more friction less travel does not seem too much to ask.
