Create Safe Space For Students to Park

Create Safe Space For Students to Park
Tickets used to be 20-35$ if someone parked in the wrong lot. Now tickets have been raised to 100$. There is already a very limited number of spots and resident can park. Unfortunately even with the lots we have available there simply are not enough parking spots available. Walking from any lot other than the ones that are already only within a half mile from the building we live is dangerous. The best solution to this is for Grand Valley to add one the neighboring lots of Niemeyer into a resident lot, such as K1 and M. Not doing so risks majority of the students arriving late from work or other activities. There have been prior incidents where a student doesn’t make it back safely. Many students carry mace or pepper spray to help defend themselves in case of an incident. Yet walking alone in the dark for over 20 minutes from across the campus gives too many opportunities for incident. At this rate Grand Valley is showing that they care more about profit than student safety. Michigan has especially unpredictable weather which could make the long walk even more hazardous. Therefore adding another resident lot would eliminate many these risks. Every lot is lit 24/7 and there is only a five minute walk instead of 20 minutes. In addition there are camera‘s surrounding all of the buildings near the lots.
