Megan Firlotte started this petition to Shen-Hao Chang (Principal planner of Grand River Transit) and

In Waterloo Region alone, we have had 1309 cases of COVID and 181 deaths at the time of writing.

Summer weather has come and people have generally stopped caring about COVID-19 and do not want to wear masks because of the heat.

At the time of writing there are 93 active COVID cases. If we want life to return to any sort of normal, it is within our best interest to stop the spread of disease.

There is major concrete evidence that shows that masks can assist in preventing the spread of infections.
Places that enforce masks have had more success in preventing cases future cases.
A fair majority of places in KW suggest the use of masks but do not enforce this rule.

In order to help stop spread of  COVID-19 in Canada; the general public should be expected to wear masks in public indoor, or enclosed spaces, and outdoors when social distancing can't be maintained.

This brings me to the Grand River Transit.
A bus is an enclosed space.

I recognize there is a mask shortage but the use of face coverings should be mandatory.

Some essential workers and healthcare workers ride the bus. I know this because I am one of them. I also know that seniors and people with low income are more likely to ride the bus. I have even seen mothers with infants ride the bus.
Please protect all of us.

GRT please make masks mandatory.
