Nancy Aaron Freund started this petition to Grammy Foundation and

In 1968 "SINGER PRESENTS .. ELVIS starting Elvis Aaron Presley aired by NBC on December 3, 1968. It marked Elvis's return to live performance after seven years during which his career was centered in the movie business.

Although it was initially planned as a Christmas special producer Bob Finkel made the decision to transform it to be about Elvis' music and hired Steve Binder to create a concert that would be current and appeal to a younger audience. Filming took place in June 1968 at NBC Studios in Burbank, CA. The show consisted of a sit-down section, stand-up numbers and two musicals. The sit-down session showcased Presley in an informal setting, surrounded by fans and members of his original band.

The 68 Special and Elvis received critical acclaim and positive reviews, topped the Nielsen Television Ratings for the week and was the most watched show of the season. The closing song was "IF I CAN DREAM" a last minute song written especially for Elvis by Walter Earl Brown, reflected on the assignation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Robert F. Kennedy.  Signiant to the meaning of the song, Elvis chose a solid white suit with a simple red scarf.

Elvis literally poured every ounce of passion and every bit of emotion in him into the performance of this great timeless song. It is my opinion, that he should have been awarded a GRAMMY for it! He didn't, but it is my hope, with this petition, that he will receive it posthumously.  TCB / TCE

Thank you, thank you very much!
