- The corona virus pandemic has taken it's toll across the world and continues to ravage the lives of millions. Amongst the chaos it remains to be acknowledged that some of the worst affected are students . The inability to get on with one’s life be it academidally or socially due to the constant postponement of the O level examination along with the general insecurity caused by a global pandemic takes a massive toll on the physical, mental and social health of adolescent teenager’s. International schools have recognized this issue and canceled the Ordinary level examination yet, the government fails to do so.
Primarily, the worst affected by the pandemic are students that are already vulnerable due to a lack of facilities and resources. Unlike the gentry that has access to robust online education these students come from houses that on occasion have a single device shared among multiple children, this is compounded by the cost of high speed internet that is crucial to make online learning viable. In some instances rural schools lack the platforms necessary to make online learning functional. The end result ultimately is a group of students that end up woefully unprepared through no fault of their own, it is then unfair to penalize them with subpar results.
Another tangential issue with the Ordinary level examination for most students is that it’s not even a exam that holds any practical value.Children undergo tremendous stress just so that their parents can show off their childrens results but what they fail to understand is that this only makes kids self esteem decrease and makes them feel worthless. At the end of the day negatives far outweigh the positives and that is why we urge you to consider a solution that works for all parties.(changing the past mark,predicted grades etc..)
