Skin cancer is a huge issue in Queensland with the State having the highest number of cases Nationally. In Queensland our UV index is consistently very high to extreme and yet the children are still outside and playing sports.

We are always teaching our children to slip, slop, slap and about the damage the sun can do, however schools are not set up to properly protect them.

Kids leaving Kindy or daycare have gone from having sunscreen stations and multiple applications a day, to being told they must independently apply their own supplied sunscreen when going outside. They are not equipped to remember this, and often simply run off to play. Additionally not all families may have the extra resources to be able to supply the sunscreen to school. No hat, no play policy only goes so far.

This is a request for schools to be provided with sunscreen stations to protect our children from the harsh sun.

Schools were very quick to be able to be supplied sanitiser when Covid occurred, however annually Queensland has thousands of cases of skin cancer and yet schools do not have sunscreen supplied to them.

Help to protect our children’s futures and encourage safe sun play.
