Quarter 4 grades Pass/Fail (Class of 2021)
With almost a year having passed since the emergence of COVID-19, and the next transition into a an entirely different form of learning, the Grace Church Senior class has endured a lot. We have gone and continued to go through the college process with unique challenges only faced by a portion of high school students in the last year. The combination of these college applications and the unthinkable amount of time spent on zoom and other forms of technology have made things extremely difficult. Not to mention, the benefits and memorable times of being a senior in high school have, for the most part, been limited. Students have struggled to experience a proper social life, all the while under the immense stress of applying to college. There is no doubt that the class of 2021 has endured a rough 12 months. Even though it remains clear that the administration has done a fair share to help address these problems this year, members of the class of 2021 believe that changing the grades of the 4th quarter to pass/fail would alleviate a great deal of stress. We acknowledge that this is a big ask and would be difficult to enact, however, it is a crucial step in promoting the well being of each student. If grades were to become pass/fail, it would allow each student to continue to focus on their studies without the stress or grades. It would also create room for an emphasis on other important things during this time, like mental health, family, and friends. We understand this is a big ask but can not emphasize enough how extremely helpful and appreciated it would be.
