Gabrielle D'Angelo started this petition to GPPSS School Board and Administration

There is a critical shortage of licensed daycare programs for learners under 3 years of age in the Grosse Pointe communities and surrounds.  Further reducing the number of available programs by eliminating classrooms for infants-2 year olds in the GPPSS is the wrong approach. Not only will reducing the spots available for our youngest learners hurt current students and families, but it is also a terrible business decision for the future of the district.

Families need quality classrooms for their babies; the district attracts young families in part because of their licensed public school childcare options. There are more programs for 3-5 year olds in a 5-10mile radius from Barnes than there are infants-2 year old programs. By eliminating these highest demand programs, not only would the district be abandoning their youngest learners, but it would be making a bad decision to enter a more crowded market rather than occupy a relative service desert. If there are concerns about the business operations of these programs, let's work together to fix them. Eliminating the programs the worst possible educational and financial outcome.
