Indian economy is dependent on agriculture which is again dependent on the rivers. Unfortunately, the natural flows of all the rivers have been either blocked or diverted by the man-made dams. Construction of the dams may have some purpose related to irrigation and flood control. But all the rivers are now getting polluted and shallow due to disposal of all garbage, harmful chemicals, and drainage outlets. The offenders are not limited to the common people but also the local municipal corporations and industries. The existing laws are not that strict and effective to stop the offenders to pollute the rivers. There is a need for extremely strict and effective legislations Exampletory punishment (such as non-bailable arrest with minimum 5-years jail and cancellation of industrial license) for the offenders(both public and govt/public office bearers) and their implementations against the following acts:

1. No religious or non-religious rituals or any other human act (such as defecation, throwing plastic/toxic/poisonous materials) should be allowed to perform on the riverside that may pollute the river water. 

2. No local municipality/corporation/panchayat or any other local administration should be allowed through the garbage in the river or the drainage outlet should not be allowed to fall into the river without proper treatment and filtration.

3. No industry (including all the existing ones) are to be allowed to drain out their waste materials or chemicals or contaminated water into any river or natural water bed without water treatment and filtration.
