Sumit Goyal started this petition to Govt of India and

The Highest Sporting honour of India is named - Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. The award is named after Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India who served the office from 1984 to 1989.

However, can we justify the fact that the highest Sports Award in the country is named after Rajiv Gandhi, and not after any sporting legend?

It is unfortunate that almost every govt. scheme, every government buildings, Colleges and the majority of public places in India are named after one dynasty (the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty). When it comes to govt. schemes, this can still be accepted because they were the country's Prime Ministers and designed the policies.

But Quite Surprisingly, The Person on whose name India's Sports Honour award for is named is neither a Sportsperson nor anyone in his near Family is related to any sport.

We, the citizens of India, request you to change the name of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award. He was known for his extraordinary goal-scoring feats, earning 3 Olympic gold medals, in 1928, 1932 and 1936, during an era where India dominated field hockey.

His influence extended beyond these victories, as India won the field hockey event in 7 out of 8 Olympics from 1928 to 1964. His birthday, 29 August, is celebrated as National Sports Day in India every year.

We hope that the Prime Minister Office takes cognizance of the matter and gives a befitting tribute to Major Dhyanchand who is an all time legend and the greatest hockey player ever.
