Ben Singleton started this petition to Governors - Woodhey High School

There are plans to academise Woodhey High School. We believe there are major issues with this plan that have not been fully considered.

Loss of Control - With the conversion of the school, it will go from having a board of governors accountable to the local community in Ramsbottom with oversight from the local council to being signed over to a remote board of trustees in Staffordshire.

More Money for the Boardroom, Less for the Classroom - The school will end up paying 5% of its budget to Shaw Education Trust, whose CEO earns (inc. employers' pension contributions) £190,000-200,000. This will take away vital resources from the classroom.

Lack of Consultation - We do not believe governors have conducted a full and meaningful consultation with parents, staff and the wider community. Every stage has fallen short of the policy of Bury Council. A recent survey of staff showed only 5% (including the school's senior leadership team) thought governors had listened to their concerns.

This is an irreversible process. If governors get it wrong, there is no going back. We, the community in Ramsbottom - parents, staff, prospective parents, grandparents and the wider community - are asking them to drop these plans and work with us to improve the school!
