Sherita Shellie started this petition to Governors State University Department Chair of Social Work Dr. Gerri Outlaw

As you all know we were faced with a pandemic in 2020. We are now in 2022 and the cases are surging with more positive results and confirmed deaths.  While we have opted to go back to school to further our careers, we were also met with the unforeseen choice of dealing with the scare of covid-19. Because of this battle many of our lives has been touched by COVID-19. As social workers we are supposed to bring help to the communities we serve. This help can not be given if COVID-19 cases increase amongst my colleagues and myself. With safety in mind and the betterment of our health, I believe it would be beneficial for school to be taken remotely. Having school remotely will allow the precautionary steps to be in place for there to be less chances of us spreading COVID-19 amongst each other. Less COVID-19 cases means more colleagues being able to help the communities they serve. More help to the communities means better communities. Lets create these better communities by participating in the first step. Protect the helpers of communities by allowing us to participate in our classes remotely.
