Judd Sather started this petition to Governor of Minnesota Governor Walz

Governor Walz,

1. Thank you for navigating Minnesota through this pandemic.

2. Please treat wedding venues like bars and restaurants as you have in the past.

3. Please set a date where you will address the wedding community, because an open-ended 10 person maximum is not acceptable.

4. Please consider a widespread antibody test to gauge herd immunity in Minnesota.

5. Please consider releasing your emergency powers now that we are through the emergency.

Thousands of wedding clients across Minnesota are in limbo waiting for direction from Governor Walz for when they can host the most significant day in their life with food and drink.  Many 2020 and 2021 couples have been forced to reschedule their weddings due to the long planning timelines of up to 24 months amidst fear from the virus and government shutdowns.  Previous executive orders have had end dates, this current one does not.  This creates havoc for well prepared wedding venues to help guide couples with an open-ended executive order.  Social events re-openings have mirrored bars and restaurants in the past and should now as well.

Large wedding venues capable of holding up to 500+ guests being limited to 10 guests in two households with food and drink just doesn't make sense.  That is the same limit as anyone's house, as well as 140 people less than a bowling alley, or 7022 people less than the Oak Park Height Menards.  Weddings should be held to the same restrictions as restaurants, especially those that are larger than restaurants, have restaurant licenses, and/or have large outdoor spaces.

The rationale for weddings being a higher risk than other entertainment venues, restaurants, and bars is not sufficiently supported with the current level of resistance and immunity. Contact tracers are not asking about retail visits, but only social interactions which is a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Widespread herd immunity and virus resistance are not headline-worthy and not being reported.  Broadly vaccinated health care workers is what we have been waiting for this entire time and it is finally here.  The vaccines coupled with with massive declines in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths over the last few weeks is long awaited and fantastic news.  These are major triumphs from the hard work of all Minnesotans.

Vulnerable adults will leave weddings early or stay away until they are comfortable.  2020 weddings saw masks and social distancing with less than half of expected guest counts.  Please let people make their own decisions in 2021 now that our most venerable friends and neighbors are protected, and the worst is finally behind us.

Unlike bars and restaurants, wedding vendors and venues can't open their doors in one day and start to make a living again.  Clients and guests need months of lead time to make these major life decisions to celebrate safely.  Please give our clients a plan for some clarity.

Thank you for listening!
